About Our Modesto Yoga Classes
The Yoga Loft offers a wide variety of classes at our Modesto yoga studio. Whether you are looking for beginner yoga classes or something more challenging, our friendly studio has something for you:
Ashtanga-Inspired Vinyasa: This energetic and challenging class incorporates elements from the Primary Series of Ashtanga and Vinyasa. Move through Sun Salutations A and B followed by Ashtanga and non-Ashtanga standing and seated postures. By learning and practicing this sequence, you will witness progression in your own strength, flexibility, and focus. A well balanced and dynamic practice that offers options and modifications for all levels to progress.
Gentle Yoga: Gentle yoga classes are for those who would like a softer, slower paced yoga practice. Minimal amount of pressure will be applied to wrists, knees, and shoulders while maximizing stretch, range of motion, balance and breath. Postures will be approached in gradual steps, with plenty of time to focus on repetition and breathing. A gentle yoga style encourages individuals to work at their own pace with ongoing encouragement. It is beneficial for beginners, seniors, people recovering from injury or surgery, and everyone in between!
Hatha Yoga: The focus in a Hatha yoga class is to work on poses themselves rather than a flow from pose to pose. They’re not linked together with breath based movements as in vinyasa flow. Sun salutations in the Hatha class are used to warm the body at the beginning of practice, and rather than jumping forward and back to heat the body (as in vinyasa), the foot is stepped forward and back, for the purpose of stretching.
Vinyasa Yoga – All Levels: Great for practitioners at all levels. Vinyasa yoga is a series of poses that will move you through the power of inhaling and exhaling. Vinyasa movements are smoothly flowing and almost dance-like, which explains why it is sometimes referred to as Vinyasa Flow or just Flow.
Vinyasa Yoga – Level 2: A perfect class for those who have developed a strong foundation in basic yoga poses and are ready to take their practice to the next level. Explore new transitions and advanced postures that you may not always find in an all-levels classes. Classes will be challenging and designed to allow you to go deeper into your practice. This class assumes some vinyasa yoga experience.
Yin Yoga: Bring some balance to your yoga practice by incorporating yin. Yin Yoga focuses on stillness, lengthening the connective tissues and allowing gravity to do the work. This practice is still and quiet —little talking or music. The postures are all practiced on the floor and each is held for a long period, usually three to five minutes. This space provides students with the opportunity to listen closely to the messages the body has to offer and can help develop a mindful meditation practice. This class is open to all levels, beginner friendly.
Yin/Restorative Yoga: This class offers a combination of yin and restorative yoga. Yin yoga is a passive practice of yoga that deeply nourishes the connective tissues (joints, ligaments, fascia). Poses are held for several minutes to gently open the body and rehabilitate the tissues. Restoratives are meditative poses in which the body is supported with props and held for extended periods of time. Both soothing and regenerating, restorative poses help bring balance to our demanding daily lives.
Yoga Basics: Back to Basics. For students at any fitness level to learn correct alignment and breathing in basic yoga postures. Ideal for those who are new to yoga, have some experience with yoga, or are simply looking to step back a bit. This is a slower paced class with a moderate amount of instruction and alignment clarity. Modifications and use of props (blocks, strap, chair, etc) are highly encouraged.
Yoga Loft Kids: The Yoga Loft Kids Class is a playful and creative way to experience the benefits of yoga. Music and movement guide children, ages 6 – 11, through poses that are similar to adult poses but adapted for growing bodies. Yoga Loft Kids gain health, happiness, and a greater sense of self in a safe and friendly environment.
Yoga Therapeutics: Therapeutic yoga is a gentle approach that can be used to create space in areas that are compressed, relieve tight muscles and help induce the relaxation response when restorative postures are incorporated. Classes are designed to move slowly so you can feel what’s happening on the inside. There is a strong focus on breath, and many aspects of the sequences are done dynamically in an effort to bring more blood flow to the muscles. The intention is to create healthy movement patterns so circulation can flow and improve joint mobility. Therapeutic Yoga is a deeply meditative experience – it provides the opportunity to step away from the busy-ness of the outside world and access the deeper wisdom that resides within us. An excellent choice for those who need something gentle yet effective for bringing the body into balance and reducing stress.
